a bit about me, my mission and my vision

Sarah Croud

I started my garden design studies at Writtle College and have many years experience working as a garden designer. My design ethos is based on Biophilic beliefs and strategy. Biophilic meaning a love of nature, or a love of living. You can read more about it here.

Achievements so far in 2025:

I won the tender to become the Wildlife Garden Designer for a local conservation society, which has acquired National Lottery Heritage Funding. Great things are happening over the next year, so be sure to follow our progress on The Clifftown Conservation Society socials.

I completed and passed a course with the London College of Garden Design, and am now the proud owner of a certificate in Construction Design Drawing.

I had my first article published in the blog of the Journal of Biophilic Design. I wrote about the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show and its Biophilic influences, and you can read it using the link here. The plan is to have more writing featured in the journal later in the year.

Previous years achievements:

Since 2022 I have been working with a local community group, ‘Grassroots Westcliff’ to improve our local green spaces. I designed, and we successfully built and planted, a pocket park at the entrance to Westcliff on Sea train station in 2023. In 2024, we updated and improved another 4 more community green spaces, with many more projects in the pipeline for 2025 and beyond. The committee works tirelessly to secure funding through grants and fundraising and we have developed a wonderful relationship with Southend on Sea City Council Parks Department. We currently have over 500 members.

I attained a diploma in organic gardening and a certificate in soil management.

I have been an RHS volunteer, forming part of the purple team at the RHS Chelsea Flower show in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

A front garden project I designed and implemented in 2017 won Chelmsford City Councils ‘Best Sustainable Garden’ award.
